MERRY CHEESEMAS: McDonald’s In US, Japan Quietly Testing Mac & Cheese

McDonald’s is undergoing on hell of a mid-life crisis at the moment. Determined to re-invent itself in the face of increased competition from “other” burger joints, the global fast food giant is throwing as much crap against the wall as it possibly can just to see what sticks.

With the recent addition of all-day breakfast proving to be a rousing success – and, real talk here, if you haven’t hit them up yet for a late night McMuffin you’re a damned fool, because it’s an absolute treat – and other additions such as the Create Your Taste range of build-your-own “gourmet” burgers, the Golden Arches are more or less on a global warpath towards bringing their image a sleek new modern visage.
‘Course while the “gourmet” side of things is aimed at the more discerning of burger enthusiasts, there’s that other side of McDonald’s that’s hell-bent on indulging those of us who just want to watch the world burn.
To wit, Maccas in Cleveland has begun very quietly testing out a line of Mac & Cheese, finally moving to correct an obvious oversight that has plagued the brand since the goddamned moment it came into being.

The dish is apparently being served either by itself, or as a component of a Happy Meal, which is fitting given it’s arguably the happiest food there is.

Even better, the dish is reportedly being delivered to participating restaurants in Ohio frozen, rather than in powder form to be cooked up by minimum wage 14 year-olds.
But if you’re not in the US, there’s no need to fret. The Mac & Cheese revolution is spreading to other parts of the world as well, such as Japan.
Maccas Japan is currently knocking together burgers made with a deep fried mac & cheese croquette

…and honest to god if the possibilities that concept presents don’t set your heart a-flutter you’re probably dead inside (or, at least, a lot healthier than us).

Still, it’s obvious what the next step down the great Kraft Dinner chain of deliciousness is.

Oh, Ben & Leslie. How do two people manage to be so right.
