Melbourne’s Five New Station Names Are Here & There’s Zero Shitty McBullshit

After tens of thousands of public votes and months of deliberation, the names of Melbourne’s five future train stations have been revealed – and, mercifully, not one of them is a Shitty McStalejoke clanger.

The new stations will be named North Melbourne, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall, and Anzac, according to a Metro Tunnel media release circulated before Premier Dan Andrews’ official announcement.

Those names will take over from placeholder titles Arden, CBD North, CBD South, and Domain, respectively. Parkville will retain its working title. Good job on nailing it the first time around, we guess.

The creation of the new North Melbourne station will mean the existing North Melbourne station will be retitled West Melbourne, which Metro Tunnel describes as “a truer reflection of its location.”

Parkville, State Library, and Town Hall are all representative of each stations’ proximity to certain regions and city landmarks, while Anzac is a nod to the nearby Shrine of Remembrance.

The public offered name suggestions before Metro Tunnel sifted through ’em for decent shouts, meaning we avoided potential titles like Smashed Avo, Winterfell, and Shane Warne.

Still, expect Melburnians to continue debating the approved titles before the project’s completion in 2026.
