VIC Police Are Looking For A Man Who Was Filmed Setting Fire To A Melbourne Train

Police in Victoria are on the hunt for a man they believe may be able to assist them with enquiries into an incident in which a bank of seats on a Melbourne train were set on fire.

Investigators have released CCTV footage that captured the incident which is alleged to have occurred on March 16th this year while the Metro train was stopped at Laverton Station.

The footage shows a man calmly dousing a bank of seats with an unidentified accelerant, before setting them alight and exiting the carriage. The man is then said to have boarded a Werribee-bound train, alighting at Williams Landing.

Police assert that the fire caused damage to the train’s seating and floor, and subsequently had to be removed from service while repairs were conducted.

Per information released by police, investigators are seeking a man, caucasian in appearance, around 175cm tall and approximately 30 years of age, seen in the footage wearing a dark cap and a grey hoodie. The man was also seen in the footage wearing a face mask off his face, around his chin. Which, lol.

Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson stated that no one was hurt in the incident, and that “investigators are appealing to anyone who may have in the vicinity of the Laverton Railway Station about 11.10am on 16 March or anyone who may recognise the man to come forward.”

Anyone with information on the incident can contact Crime Stoppers.
