Melbourne Teen Plotted To Attack Police With Explosives-Packed Kangaroo

No, that headline isn’t false. Yes, it’s a real thing that’s actually happened.

A 19-year-old by the name of Sevdet Besim from Hallam, in Melbourne‘s outer-south east, is in the middle of criminal proceedings against him relating to the alleged planning of a terrorist act, that was supposedly set to be carried out on ANZAC Day last year.
Besim is charged with four counts relating to planning a terrorist act over the phone and on the internet – all charges he has pleaded not guilty to in court hearings.
The prosecution against Besim alleges that the teen was planning an attack on police officers on ANZAC Day (a date that would make the attack more memorable) by either running one down, or even staging a beheading.
However, documents from those court hearings have revealed that police are alleging that, at least at one point, Besim was considering the idea of packing a kangaroo with C4 explosives, painting it up in an Islamic State symbol, and then setting the animal loose on unsuspecting officers.
Again, we are absolutely not kidding.
The court documents read thusly:

“Communications resume in the early hours of Thursday 20 March 2015 with an image being sent by BESIM with a comment of ‘look what I got ahaha’.”

“The conversation continues with BESIM detailing what he did that day and they have a general discussion around animals and wildlife in Australia including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and set loose on police officers.”

Besim has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again on February 3rd.

Good. Bloody. Lord.
