Call Nonna, Melbourne’s Putting On A Spicy Salami Festival This Weekend

As the sun tries real hard to break through the winter blanket of cloud that’s shrouded Melbourne for the last few months (what feels like a friggin’ lifetime), it’s the perfect time to crack into a bottle of wine and a good charcuterie board. And you know what’s perfect on one of those? Salami, my good friends. The good spicy sausage.

On September 7, which is apparently National Salami Day (the more you know), Preston Markets will be paying its respects to the world of dried meats with a fully-cured salami festival.

If you head along to the markets on the sacred sauso day, you’ll be able to cop yourself some free tastings of both meaty and vegan delicacies from Rhubarb Rhubarb Orgranics and Jerry’s Deli, plus some sweet deals on salami pizzys from Peter’s Pizza and Vinnie’s Half Price Pizza, and meats to take home for various platters, cheese and meats boards, grazing tables, or just for munging on while you’re watching TV.

There will also be a sausage-making demonstration from the Sausages Made Simple’s undisputed Sausage Queen, Sara Grazia, who will walk you through all the euphemism-laden steps of making your own spicy snag, from boning the meat to encasing it in its stretchy condom skin.

It all kicks off when the market opens bright and early on Saturday, September 7, so cross your fingers that the weather turns it on so you can spend your day fossicking through the markets trying to find the perfect sausage.
