The outlet reports two people have been transported to Monash Medical Centre, while a third has been transported to The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

The Age, traffic reporter Sebastian Cant said the wreckage was “probably the worst incident involving vehicles and trucks I have ever seen.”

“The scene is horrific,” he added.

VicTraffic has advised motorists that all traffic on the freeway’s westbound lane has been halted as emergency services attempt to clear the road.

Drivers should consider taking Princes Highway/Dandenong Road as an alternative route, and to re-enter the freeway at Warrigal Road.

Delays are expected to continue through the afternoon. An investigation into the cause of the smash is underway.
