FUCK: A Hotel Quarantine Worker In Melbourne Has Just Tested Positive For The Coronavirus

After an amazing innings with no cases of community transmission over the past four weeks, a worker at a quarantine hotel has now tested positive for the coronavirus.

A 26-year-old who worked at the Grand Hyatt hotel as part of the Australian Open quarantine program.

“He’s now in a health hotel and his household contacts have been isolated,” Premier Dan Andrews said.

“There’s no need for people to be alarmed. We Victorians know what to do, and we have proven, as state, very successful at managing these sorts of outbreaks, these sorts of issues.”

In a statement, the DHHS said: “Our public health teams are investigating and close contacts are being notified.”

It’s the first such case under Victoria’s revamped hotel quarantine program, which was overhauled last year after the state’s enormous second wave.

The original setup was plagued by inexperienced and undertrained guards, something the government was warned about.

One guard allegedly hooked up with someone in staying in the same hotel, while another was fired for asking one of the guests out for coffee.

It appears most of the above has been stamped out under the new system, but it’s still not great news to see that a hotel quarantine worker was able to somehow contract COVID-19.

More to come.
