Meghan Markle‘s estranged father Thomas Markle has sat down with 60 Minutes to dish his (mostly unwanted) opinion on Oprah‘s involvement in her daughter’s life. There’s many an apology but also many an accusation, and it’s a fkn wild ride.
In case you’ve been in the dark about Thomas Markle’s antics in the past few years, let me get you up to speed real quick.
First, when the Oprah interview came out with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, he made it known to the public that he sent Oprah a handwritten letter asking for an interview himself, because Meghan mentioned she felt betrayed by her father. I guess he wanted to retaliate, but either way, Oprah declined.
Then he went and told fkn Piers Morgan of all people that Harry is “snotty”, which I’m sure was a very good look.
Now, Thomas has appeared on 60 Minutes to suggest that Oprah Winfrey is some mastermind who is playing his daughter. He also called Meghan “cold”, but that’s another story.
“I’m not bitter, I’m confused. I just don’t have the answer. I want the answer,” Thomas Markle said from his home in Rosarito, Mexico.
“If I had done something terribly wrong, that would be fine, but I haven’t.”
In the interview, he also admitted that he hasn’t seen his daughter in around three years, has never met Harry, and has never seen his grandchildren.
“I don’t know of anybody that’s that cold to do this. And now, like I said, Meghan did it to me and Harry’s doing it to his father. That’s a cold thing to do,” he continued.
“And it’s even more cold to do it to the Queen, who’s in her nineties. None of this makes sense.
“There are axe murderers in prison, their family comes to see them. Right? I mean, I’m not an axe murderer. You know, I made one dumb mistake, never been forgiven for it.”
And then came the claims that Oprah is “playing” the royal duo.
“I think Oprah Winfrey is playing Harry and Meghan,” Thomas Markle said.
“I think she’s using them to build her network and build her new shows and I think she’s taking advantage of a very weakened man, and getting him to say things that you just shouldn’t be saying on television.
“She will disagree of course, and she may even sue me, I don’t care. But the bottom line is she is working Harry.”
The interview wrapped up with Thomas’ wishes to sit down with his daughter Meghan and reconcile before he dies, which he claims may be soon.
“July 18, I’ll be 77 years old. Most of the Markle men don’t make it much past 80,” he said.
“Yeah, there’s good chance I might never see my grandchildren. I’m not looking for pity. I’m just saying that’s a reality.”
“I’m not an ogre… I’d love to talk to her.”
