NSW Police state they arrested a 33-year-old man and his 31-year-old partner yesterday after the Fixated Persons Investigations Unit was alerted to an alleged string of violent threats, incidences of property damage, and yes, an alleged car bombing.

The apparent catalyst for the alleged harassment: a near-miss in a drive-thru. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, NSW Police are gearing up to allege that a couple beeped at a woman driving at Warrawong McDonald’s on February 22.

The woman who was beeped at informed her partner of the incident, police allege. That man now stands accused of going to great lengths to track down the couple who beeped.

The windows of the couple’s ute were smashed in the next day.

Police allege the couple were subjected to an onslaught of online threats afterwards. The alleged persecution climaxed on March 5, when the couple’s Ford Ranger was purportedly fitted with explosives and blown up in their driveway.

After his arrest yesterday, the 33-year-old man was charged with two counts of stalking, two counts of using a carriage service (ie, SMS or online messages) to threaten to kill, destroy or damage property, a further two counts of using a carriage service to threaten serious harm, threatening a witness, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, and yes, one count of placing explosives in or near a vehicle to cause harm.

We has denied bail and will face Wollongong Local Court today.

His partner – the woman who was allegedly beeped at in the first place – was charged with being an accessory after the fact to destroying property, and stalking with  intent to cause harm.

She was granted bail under strict conditions and will face Wollongong Local Court next month.
