The human remains discovered under a cabbage tree palm in NSW‘s Royal National Park earlier this week have been confirmed by DNA testing to be those of Sydney man Matthew Leveson.
The Justice For Matthew Leveson Facebook page announced the news earlier this evening, thanking everyone who has supported them, and saying:
“It has now been CONFIRMED by DNA testing that the remains found WERE OF OUR BELOVED MATTY.”
Procedures at the crime scene were finished yesterday, with Leveson’s parents taking home the tree their son’s body was found underneath.

Leveson disappeared ten years ago. He was last seen leaving ARQ Nightclub in Sydney’s Darlinghurst with his ex-partner Michael Atkins.
Atkins was charged with Leveson’s murder but acquitted in 2009 in a tangle of dismissed evidence and police bargaining. The search that discovered Leveson’s remains was the third that had been attempted since last year.
