Texas Woman Tells Police She Shot Her Husband Because He Was Beating Their Cat

A woman in north-east Dallas has told police that she shot and killed her husband because he was beating their family cat.

According to local news station KTVT, the husband, 49-year-old Dexter Harrison, was taken to hospital on Saturday morning local time, where he later died.

Mary Harrison, 47, was arrested for murder and taken to Lew Sterrett Jail. According to the Daily Mail, when officers arrived at the scene, Harrison told police that she and her husband had been arguing and she shot her husband when he began beating their cat.

A neighbour told the station that he was pretty surprised:

A man got shot over a cat? It’s kind of crazy. It’s unbelievable. A man loses his life over a cat. I mean, people love their pets, but it ain’t that serious… to die for a cat.

Neighbours told KTVT that the Harrison family had only moved in a few months ago and had been recently putting up flyers for a lost cat.
