Ah, it’s a beautiful thing, folks. It’s so rare in Australian politics to see something pass that is actually unequivocally good – and we’ve just seen it today in the passing of marriage equality. The vibes are strong, and there’s no doubt more a few people out there getting outrageously Thursday drunk out there. We endorse it.
And the response was overwhelming. Sure, we had the rush when Australia voted Yes. But now it’s law, and it got through both houses of Parliament without a single conservative amendment – all of which in some form attempted to codify discrimination in law – passing. And the people are loving it.
It’s a YES! Simply and fairly, #MarriageEquality is now law! Today our country can be truly proud. We did it together! 🎉 pic.twitter.com/lGZgUgSmyL
