Panthers Legend Mark Geyer Will Pursue Godawful FB Page NRL Memes In Court

Lawyers for NRL legend Mark Geyer have confirmed they will be pursuing the individual behind NRL Memes, the godawful rugby league memes page which earlier this week falsely identified Geyer’s 22-year-old daughter as a participant in a leaked sex tape.

Geyer made a brief statement prior to the start of his Triple M radio show Tuesday night, condemning those who spread the rumour:

To say that my family is devastated by the actions of persons on social media over the past 24 hours is a total understatement. My innocent daughter has had her name, honour and integrity dragged through the mud by these completely false accusations. The are lies and defamatory in the highest order.

I have sought legal advice and prepared the following statement: I have today engaged Brydens Lawyers to act on behalf of my daughter, Montanna, for the purpose of taking action against those who have published false and defamatory material which has caused incredible distress for my family.

On Monday night, NRL Memes posted a screenshot from one of the sex videos, which features unnamed Penrith Panthers players and was allegedly leaked by Tyrone May, along with the caption: “The bird in the Tyrone May video is Mark Geyer’s daughter. Happy days at Penrith.”

The Geyer family has strongly denied that it is Montanna Geyer in the video.

“I just want my daughter’s name cleared, like any father would want,” Geyer told The Daily Telegraph.

The post has now been deleted, but not before it received a comment from an account under Geyer’s name:

NRL Memes is, without any question, an absolute content swamp. Some of the lowest-rent content you are likely to see, mostly consisting of shit memes with startlingly homophobic captions. The page has now been implicated in several sex tape leaks involving NRL players, including the January leak of a video of former Roosters player Dylan Napa.

Australian law dictates that content published to social media platforms like Facebook is held to the same standard to content published on more ‘traditional’ platforms, and it is on these grounds that Geyer and his team are pursuing legal action.

As of today, the administrator of NRL Memes is still posting through the drama – including content about the Panthers, which may or may not seem ill-advised considering the circumstances.
