Man Turns Himself In To Police Over Anzac Day Navy Officer Bashing

A man turned himself in to police and has been charged in relation to the assault on a navy officer on a train in Sydney‘s southwest after Anzac Day commemorations on Monday.

The man and his companions were alleged to have been disturbing passengers, drinking alcohol and acting rowdy on the Campbelltown-bound train when the navy officer, who does not wish to be named, intervened and asked them to stop. It is alleged that after this, the accused punched the officer in the side of the head as he was alighting the train.
The victim’s girlfriend, Emma Novotny, told the Sydney Morning Herald that she was afraid he was more injured than he actually was:

“I’m surprised he wasn’t knocked to the ground because it was a king hit. We thought he might have had his tooth knocked out because there was a lot of blood coming out of his mouth, but it was just his nose.”

The naval officer was heading back to the southwest after attending Anzac Day services in the city. He was wearing his uniform at the time.

The man was granted bail and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on the 16th of May.
