Man Charged With Murder Over Sydney Schoolgirl’s Disappearance 18 Yrs Ago

After 18 long years of false starts and bum steers, charges have been laid over the 1998 disappearance of Sydney schoolgirl Quanne Diec.
A 49-year-old male has been charged with murder after he entered Surry Hills police station on Sunday afternoon, asking to speak to detectives about the cold case.
Quanne was last seen on July 27, as she left her family home in Sydney’s Granville at 7.45am to go to school.

She was due to catch a train from Clyde to Strathfield but never arrived at Strathfield Girls High School; her disappearance wasn’t reported for close to 10 hours because the school assumed she was at home sick.

In 1998, then premier Bob Carr offered a $200,000 reward for any information leading to information about Quanne’s location or disappearance and detectives have continued to investigate her disappearance ever since via Strike Force Lyndey, draining and searching nearby waterways and even hypnotising potential witnesses.
Quanne’s missing poster still appears on the missing persons database
Chilling CCTV footage released by police in 2000 showed Quanne being followed by someone as she walked past an Australia Post sorting centre less than 400m from her house but the person in question was never identified.
Her parents still live in the same Granville home, not wanting to leave incase she one day walked back through the front door.
The accused was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court on Monday.
