Man Arrested At Central Station After Taking Upskirt Photos Of Women

Or, to put the headline another way: “Creepy dude breaks the law, gets caught.

This is kind of a bad news/good news situation – specifically in that order, and not the other way around.
A 46 year-old man has been caught in the act of taking upskirt photos of unsuspecting women on a Sydney train, and subsequently confronted by the woman whose privacy he violated.
The incident occurred at Central Station as the 30 year-old woman was walking down the stairs between the carriage’s two levels at around 1pm on Monday. After seeing the incident take place, another passenger alerted the woman as to what had taken place. She then immediately confronted the man with the phone, waiting with him until she saw him physically delete the offending images.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and questioned the man, later arresting him and seizing his phone. Upon closer inspection, police discovered several more images and videos featuring a range of unknown other victims.
The man was subsequently charged with two counts of filming a person’s private parts and released on conditional bail to appear in court on October 15th.
Bad news in the first place, because this kind of thing happens – and goes unreported – with shocking regularity, and so rarely does it make the news.
But, ultimately, good news in the sense that despite the horrific invasion of privacy, and creepiness, and overall sexually-based violation this woman suffered, thankfully other people recognised the offensive nature of the incident and chose to speak up, rather than remain silently complicit in this particular instance.
That’s how you fix things like this. Through good people making themselves heard.
