26 Y.O. Man Stabbed To Death At Melbourne Train Station Was Trying To Protect His Girlfriend

A 26-year-old man named Cam Smith was allegedly stabbed to death outside Seaford train station yesterday, after defending his girlfriend from a group of three men and a woman who were abusing her.

In a heartfelt and emotional phone call to 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, Cam Smith’s father described his son as having a “heart of gold.”

“He went to defend her and a bottle was broken and in that fight he was stabbed in the heart,” he said.

“He had everything to live for, he was a go-getter, hard worker, he had a heart of gold, he would help anyone, anytime, he was just a fantastic kid.

“He was a great young man. He wanted to work for himself and become a registered builder.

“He wanted a family and his life was snuffed out in a matter of minutes.”

On Wednesday, a woman allegedly abused Smith’s girlfriend shouting expletives at her. Shortly afterwards there was an altercation and Smith was stabbed with a broken bottle.

Just before 7pm, Victoria Police arrived at the scene and found Smith suffering from life-threatening injuries. Paramedics tried to save him, but he unfortunately died at the scene.

Police spent the night trying to figure out what had happened.

“We will identify these offenders, there’s no doubt about that,” Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton told 3AW today.

“They’d be better off coming forward and handing themselves in because it won’t take us long to scoop them up,” he added.

According to Victoria Police, homicide detectives have now arrested a teenager for as part of their investigation into Cam Smith’s death. He remains in custody and is assisting police detectives with their enquiries.

Detectives are still trying to identify two other males and a female that may have been involved in the incident.

The incident happened in front of a number of witnesses who reported seeing the stabbing on station street in Seaford.
