Makers Of Flag Budgie Smugglers Couldn’t Be Happier With All The Free Press

Yep, the crew whose actions (inadvertently or not) needlessly violated another nation’s laws are actually receiving props from the company. Oh, also, they asserted wearing flags on our jocks is an authentic Aussie tradition, and capped the whole thing off with the words “bring them home” – a turn of phrase used more memorably in reference to the Bali 9, or the Stolen Generation, not lads on tour. 

To win the Photo of the Month it always helps if there’s a little bit of a story behind the photo. I think it’s safe to say the Budgy 9 are in the lead for October. We’ve produced over 50 flags without international incident and it is genuinely meant as a sign of embracing cultures and also often for people from other countries to embrace an Australian tradition. No offence was intended in the production of the pairs. Wishing the boys a safe trip home. Bring them home.

In response to one commenter’s take that the men – including one of Christopher Pyne’s staffers – would know better if they “went to an inclusive school,” the company said “they are def better educated now.”

FWIW, the owner of the company has still pledged not to make any more Malaysian flag pairs, citing the “political sensitivity” surrounding ’em. Might be a sensible choice for the time being.
