To catch you up to date with how we’ve arrived at this exceedingly stupid moment in history, US rapper Macklemore is set to perform his pro-marriage equality song Same Love at this weekend’s NRL Grand Final, ruffling the feathers of, well, bigots mostly, who say sports and politics shouldn’t mix.
Former PM Tony Abbott for example, is one such idiot chiming in with his blatant hypocrisy, and now Macklemore himself has returned serve, appropriately calling those kicking up a stink “angry old white dudes”.
Speaking on Power 106 radio in the States before flying out for Sunday’s game, Macklemore commented on the situation brewing down under:
I’m actually going out to Australia to perform at kind of the Super Bowl of their rugby league and it’s interesting actually cause I’m gonna play Same Love and they’re going through trying to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia.
So I’m getting a lot of tweets from angry old white dudes in Australia. Today I think there is a petition to ban me from playing. It’s interesting times in Australia.

“Interesting times” is putting it lightly, mate. I’d go more towards “batshit insane nightmare times”, but that’s just me.
