Alandra Hull told 9NEWS she was driving on the Alaska Highway in British Columbia last Sunday when she passed the couple’s distinctive van and an agitated man.

“He kind of looked frustrated or something,” Hull said of the man, who was allegedly standing in the middle of the highway and gesturing at the couple.

“If you just get a bad feeling, and that’s what I had, you just don’t stop.”

Canadian police asked Hull to give a statement and to work with a sketch artist to compile an image of the man.

The news comes as authorities search for leads in the murder, which took place in an expansive and thinly-populated part of the province.

Investigators have reportedly been tasked with scouring CCTV footage from the scant few businesses situated nearby to understand when the shootings may have taken place, and have also urged anyone who was near Liard Hot Springs on the night to speak up.

While the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is leading the investigation, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Jones said on Saturday two Australian officers will act to assist.
