Fun* fact: hand-wringing over Beyoncé’s Super Bowl Halftime Show gig extended far past Australia’s very own moral crusader Andrew Bolt.
If you missed it (and honestly, that could be a blessing), he said her show – which featured a cadre of black back-up dancers – was flagrantly anti-white, focussed on “black supremacy”, and was indicative of a “crude new racism.”
Truth be told, the second-hand embarrassment his ‘concerned’ think-piece wrought upon our nation pales in comparison to the cringe-worthy chuckleheads who actually staged a protest outside NFL headquarters based on the thought process.
And by ‘protest’, The Cut reports only three people rocked up. And one hadn’t even seen the show.
The ‘demonstration‘, organised by pro-law-enforcement group Proud Of The Blues, was intended to be a protest against the supposed call for anti-police violence spruiked by the performance and the video for her new single Formation.
Unsurprisingly, the trio were utterly outnumbered by pro-Bey supporters, because the number of people who can recognise the Black Lives Matter movement doesn’t mean “kill police officers” – hell, even the number of people who just like her music – overshadows those who honestly took a mainstream musical performance as a legitimate call to arms.

The three who did turn up justified their presence by claiming the performance was tantamount to an attack on police officers. Of course, if you’ve been keeping up with police brutality in the States as of late, you may have noticed just how much that needless violence has extended the other way.
Better luck next time, guys. Next time here means literally never.
