Lily Allen Opens Up On Her Mum’s Horrific Encounter With Harvey Weinstein

Lily Allen has revealed her own Mother’s brush with Harvey Weinstein‘s horrific, depraved behaviour in a story that is as shocking as it is, now, unsurprising.

Allen spoke with Andrew Denton via satellite from London for an episode of Channel Seven’s revealing Interview program, which is set to air across Australia tonight at 8:45pm tonight.

Allen has known Weinstein, who was formally charged with rape and sexual abuse in May following a litany of accusations from scores of women leading to the collapse of his Hollywood empire, for virtually her entire life.

The 33-year-old singer and musician’s mother, Alison Owen, is a long-time film producer with credits on films like ElizabethSaving Mr. Banks, and Shaun of the Dead.

In the interview with Denton, Allen revealed that while she personally “never suspected anything about” Weinstein, her mother revealed a shocking encounter with his infamous and depraved behaviour while viewing a private screening of the 2004 film In the Cut.

My Mum’s worked quite closely with Harvey, she’s done several films with him, and once they were looking at working with a particular director, Jane Campion. She’d just done a film with Meg Ryan called In the Cut, and it was the first time Meg had ever done nudity.

It was just my Mum and Harvey in a screening room, and just when Meg Ryan was getting her clothes off she heard this grunting noise from behind her. It was Harvey pleasuring himself, in a dark room, with my Mum sitting in front of him.

As staggering as the audacity of that is, Allen also noted that despite this incident, Owen continued working with Weinstein, with Allen adding “I guess that goes to show how powerful he was, that she didn’t feel like she could say anything.

Andrew Denton’s full interview with Lily Allen is said to also touch on topics such as fame and family. Tonight’s episode also includes an in-depth discussion with Australian of the Year Rosie Batty.

It airs at 8:45pm on Channel Seven.
