Police Are Investigating The “Suspicious Death” Of 21 Y.O. Rapper Lil Peep

Local authorities are investigating the “suspicious death” of rising emo-rap star Lil Peep, who was pronounced dead on his tour bus back on November 15th. Though it was widely reported that Gustav Åhr died of a drug overdose, police in Tucson, Arizona say they can’t confirm that until a toxicology report is returned.

“It appeared to have been an overdose from evidence found near his body – most likely from Xanax or a combination of different drugs,” Sergeant Pete Dugan of the Tucson Police Department said. “But we’re not medical examiners. We have to wait for a toxicology report. Until we get that, we don’t know the cause of death.”

Police say the death is suspicious because of the presence of narcotics around the body when it was found, and said that it “appeared to be from an overdose” due to the lack of evidence for trauma or foul play.

TMZ is reporting that the police investigation currently centres around a series of Twitter direct messages from a woman named Mariah who alleged saw Peep on his tour bus shortly before he died.

“GBC [Lil Peep] high af because of me and my friend lol,” she allegedly posted in a Twitter group message. “He passed the fuck out my brother called and I tried to get him to say hi to my brother but he wouldn’t wake up …”

TMZ previously reported that police were investigating whether the opiod fentanyl was involved in the star’s death.

Åhr built a devoted following in his short career due to his innovative blend of guitar-based emo and hip-hop production. He’d issued a few mixtapes via Bandcamp and looked to be on the cusp of greater fame at the time of his death.

A memorial service is being held for Åhr next week at the Allegria Hotel in Long BeachNew York.
