Leigh Sales Awakens The Fangirl During Harrison Ford’s ‘7.30’ Interview

Seeing hardcore journos temporarily shed their impartiality – aka fangirling, bigstyle – is very similar to watching comedians break character: it’s an utter delight at first, but too much, and you’re just cracking under the pressure. Lookin’ at you, Fallon.

Fortunately, even when it comes to effusive gushing, Leigh Sales is a consummate pro.

Tonight’s 7.30 saw her interview an infamous smuggler and wanted criminal actual human being Harrison Ford, and it was apparent from the get-go just how big a deal it was for Sales. She introduced the segment by saying “I can’t believe I get to say this, but today I got to sit down with Harrison Ford,” and let the world know beforehand with a sneaky Tweet too.

She also let slip that she “teared up like a fool” while watching the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That emotion only came in subtle glimpses during the interview, though, which instead covered the nuances of Ford’s acting methods, J.J Abrams vision for the film, and the saga’s “emotional authenticity.”

“I think it confronts issues that we all find are important in our lives,” he said, circling back to “questions of identity, responsibility, independence and fate.”

Fate – the same thing that brought these two together in the first place. Oh, and everyone who’s not down with a touch of fangirling can stay in their damn lane.
