Lee Lin Chin Redefines Side-Eye, Reports Women’s Marches In ‘Pussy’ Specs

If anyone understands the power of fashion as a political statement, it’s Lee Lin Motherfuckin’ Chin, news goddess and patron saint of sartorial cool.

She took the opportunity to combine her support for the millions of women worldwide who are marching for their rights with her ride-or-die accessory – reading glasses – while reading the news for SBS on Sunday night, rocking a pair of custom ‘pussy’ glasses.

While this might seem like an oddly specific inference to draw from two otherwise unremarkable ridges on each side of the frames, they bear a powerful resemblance to the hats from the Pussy Hat Project, which featured heavily in the women’s march.

The Pussy Hat Project was an attempt (via free instructions on how to make your own) to use pink woollen hats as a means to “provide the people of the Women’s March on Washington D.C. a means to make a unique collective visual statement”, which, if you look at photos of the march, they absolutely succeeded in.

An estimated 4.5 million people (including a bunch of ~celebs~) marched around the world to stand up for equality, women’s rights, LGBT rights, immigrant rights, healthcare, climate change, and other issues believed to be under threat, very auspiciously timed to provide a counterpoint to the inauguration the day earlier, which stood for pretty much the exact opposite of all of those things.
It’s unsurprising to see Lee Lin throw her support behind in them in this way because, primarily, she’s not averse to telling fascists to fuck off, and, to a lesser extent, she’s just always worn really weird things.
God bless her.
