Leak Reveals Breitbart Writers’ Panicked Group Chat About Trump Jr. Fiasco

The pro-Trump media across the world is generally pretty good at spinning his scandals and political failures into something salvageable. At a time when trust in the liberal media is at an all-time low, they’re great at collectively finding the angle that makes Trump look good, and hammering it until it’s not a problem anymore.

With this whole Donald Trump Jr. situation, they’ve found it a little harder to spin it – because the absolute most charitable interpretation you can make is that the president’s son is a huge moron.

CNN got a wonderful scoop from the brains trust at Breitbart, the hard-right outlet who alternate between articles on immigrant crime, how Trump is the only flawless politician in history, and… why Digimon is good? Whatever.
Basically, CNN got a leak from the Slack chat of the writers at Breitbart. (Slack is a team chat application, in case you weren’t aware.) Meaning that somebody on that Slack is a mole, which is hilarious.

Raheem Kassam, editor-in-chief of Breitbart London, responded to news of Trump Jr. posting the emails he exchanged about meeting with a Russian government figure in a way that was remarkably more candid than you might expect.
“So like, this is straight up collusion,” he wrote in Slack, according to a transcript of the conversation obtained by CNN. “Right?”

Apparently, senior editor Rebecca Mansour reacted simply with “Wow.” and deputy politics editor Amanda House wrote only, “???????” All stunning endorsements of Trump Junior’s extremely wise choices.
Matthew Boyle, Breitbart’s Washington editor, still carried the flame for Donny. “I mean I don’t take this as a smoking gun at all. This is silly,” he wrote.
Look, whatever went down after that, they ended up covering the story pretty damn straight – there wasn’t a whole lot of editorialising though. They didn’t really try to defend it as per usual, they just reported it as it was.
But the most important takeaway here is that the Breitbart slack is compromised. That, to me, is funny.
