Last Year Was One Of Our Hottest On Record, And 2017 Will Be Even Sweatier

No, you weren’t dreaming when you spent the last ten or so nights of 2016 sweating a river through your poor, battered bedsheets: 2016 was overall Australia‘s fourth-hottest year on record. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, only 2013, 2005 and 2014 were hotter.

And if you live in Sydney or Darwin, congrats – last year was the hottest year on record for you guys. They scored the hottest maximum, minimum and mean temperatures on record. Meanwhile, Brisbane and Hobart had their hottest years for mean temperatures.
The incredible warmth in our coastal areas is no doubt to blame for the weird weather events we experienced throughout the year. “It was a warm and wet year,” said Karl Braganza, head of climate monitoring at the bureau. “We had frequent extreme events.”
Your hell isn’t quite over yet, either. 2016 is anticipated to be the hottest year on record globally, so it’s time to pull out the ice cube try from your freezer and shove it down the front of your pants.
Oh, no one does that except me? Weird.
