Kogan Founder Takes Dick Into Own Hands, Buys Out Dick Smith

Ruslan Kogan – the man behind mega-successful e-commerce website Kogan – is set to *masterfully* breathe new life into the erstwhile doomed retailer Dick Smith, which has remained flaccid and empty since it shut up shop last month.

Now, it appears that one has, or, at the very least, the standards of ‘suitable’ were dropped. Kogan has acquired the intellectual property of Dick Smith for an undisclosed sum after a two-month auction, and is now the proud owner of its brand, trademarks, customer and loyalty databases, online businesses, websites, and domain names.

There are a few changes coming, according to an interview Kogan gave to Fairfax: Dick Smith will no longer be a bricks-and-mortar store.

“We believe there are strong digital efficiencies in our model that we intent to leverage in order to provide Australians with the best value,” he told Fairfax, demonstrating a flair for buzzword-stuffing.

“At this stage, we’re focussing on making our business more efficient, not less efficient, and passing on the savings to consumers.”

The brand however, will remain the same. The Dick is back, long live the Dick.
