14-Year-Old Boy Killed In Tragic Kite Surfing Accident In Sydney’s South

NSW Police have confirmed the tragic news that a teenage boy was killed yesterday after a kite surfing accident in Kurnell, south of Sydney.

At around 5.30pm on Saturday, a 14-year-old boy was kite surfing off Silver Beach when he was caught by a powerful gust of wind and landed heavily on rocks.

In a statement to media, police said:

“As a result, the boy suffered severe injuries and, following a rescue operation, he was airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of hospital staff, the boy died. Officers from the Marine Area Command are conducting inquiries into the incident and are speaking to family and witnesses.”

A report into the boy’s death will be prepared for the Coroner.

Silver Beach at Kurnell and Bonna Point are both popular kite surfing spots in the Sutherland Shire.

The NSW Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong wind warning for the Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast and Eden Coast areas for Sunday November 3.

There is also a strong wind warning for the Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Illawarra Coast, Batemans Coast and Eden Coast regions for Monday 4.
