Two Dead, Including Primary School Student, After Knife Attack In Japan

Two people have been killed and at least 15 other people were wounded after a stabbing attack at a busy bus stop in Japan.

Japanese media reports that a primary schoolgirl and a man in his 30s died from injuries sustained during the attack in Kawasaki city, located in Tokyo‘s south-west metro region.

The suspect, believed to be a 57-year-old man, also died after a self-inflicted stab wound.

Two other girls and a woman in her 40s are reportedly being treated for serious injuries.

Citing eyewitnesses, BBC reports the assailant attacked students waiting for a bus before entering the vehicle and stabbing its occupants.

NHK reports police were called to the scene just after 7.45am local time.

The outlet  states two knives were recovered at the scene. Footage from the site shows emergency workers setting up tarpaulins to shield the area from onlookers.

Authorities are yet to determine a motive for the attack.
