Kate Spade’s father Earl F. Brosnahan, Jr. has died the day before his daughter’s scheduled funeral.
The announcement came via E! News, after the Brosnahan family released a statement to the media outlet. He was 89.
We are deeply saddened to announce that Katy’s father, Earl F. Brosnahan, Jr. (Frank), passed away last night at age 89. He had been in failing health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter. He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
The fashion designer’s funeral will still be going ahead according to the media outlet, with family and friends remembering Kate in Kansas City today, as her Kansas City Star obituary confirmed on Sunday.
The family has asked for tributes to be made by donating to the ASPCA or to Wayside Waifs, a Kansas City no-kill animal shelter, in lieu of flowers, as Kate was devoted to animals.
The 55-year-old designer was found unconscious and unresponsive by her housekeeper in her New York City apartment on June 5. Her death was later ruled a suicide.
