In alarming security news, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop was today the victim of a carefully executed cyber attack after her personal Twitter account – @juliebishopMP – was highjacked by anonymous internet pirates and used to unfurl masterfully constructed tendrils of link bait spam secretly promoting a weight loss product. Spam-bot threat level: orange.
Tweets directed to her more than 50,000 Twitter followers included: “LOL u gotta read this, its crazy”, “Im laughing so hard right now at this”, “lol I had a crazy feeling this is u”, and the classic, “haha this blog by you is crazy”.
The spurious tweets have since been deleted with Ms. Bishop explaining that her account had been “compromised”.
