Judge In ’60 Mins’ Kidnapping Trial Says No Chance Charges Will Be Dropped

More news from the bungled ‘child snatch’ operation by ’60 Minutes’ in Beirut. The judge presiding over the case, Rami Abdullah has said that there is “no chance” that the charges against mother Sally Faulkner and the crew will be dropped, because their alleged crime was a “violation of Lebanese authority.”

Faulkner appeared in court alongside ’60 Minutes’ journo Tara Brown and her crew Benjamin Williamson, David Ballment and Stephen Rice.
Faulkner’s lawyer Ghassan Moghabghab said the best hope was to strike an agreement with the children’s father Ali Elamine, which he says would “help all the accused people”. Moghabghab has made unsubstantiated claims that the judge is encouraging the father to do just that.

Brown was quoted by NewsCorp as saying that conditions in the jail have been decent. “Quite genuinely we are being treated well by the standards here, it’s fine, it’s not crowded.”

They’re all facing charges of kidnapping and being members of a criminal gang. The case has been adjourned till Monday – and all defendants will remain in detention until then.
