Here’s John Oliver Giving Clive Palmer An Absolute Bake On ‘Last Week Tonight’

In what feels like an absolute inevitability, John Oliver has finally dedicated air time on Last Week Tonight to the complete and utter horror show that has been the Australian Federal Election campaign. And perhaps more notably, Oliver finally took the time to run Clive Palmer straight through the ringer. About bloody time.

Oliver’s attentions turned to the Australian Election on yesterday’s edition of the very good HBO series, first pointing out the absurdity of the apparently unending parade of dropout and disendorsed candidates that’s now longer than any senate ballot paper getting around. In particular, he gave the ~dearly departed~ One Nation dumbass Steve Dickson a particularly pointed bake, labelling him “Sexual Harassment Dundee,” which is a hell of a gag.

But it was Palmer, naturally, who got the biggest roast of all. The off-brand bootleg dodgy market Trump of Australian politics had his not-even-remotely-subtle Trump plagiarism torched by Oliver, who pointed out the irony of using the knock-off “Make Australia Great” slogan while omitting the word “Again.”

Check out the clip below (it cuts off because it’s a shady YouTube upload, but you take what you can when it comes to HBO uploads).

The only misstep? Apparently nobody’s told Oliver about the fact Palmer’s just flat-out lying about wild shit in regional areas, like the giant billboards all over Tasmania that promise a “special tax bracket for all Tasmanians” and “20% less tax for Tasmanians.”

Show your work, you bulbous fuck.
