Jess Mauboy Dodges Rumours She Was MIA At The Cup Because Of Shoe Spat

Rumours have been wildly flailing about the place today, regarding Jessica Mauboy‘s strange no-show at yesterday’s Melbourne Cup celebrations.

The usually-reliable singer was booked to sing the national anthem before the race began, but Nadia Aya stepped up to sing instead (allegedly with only 30 seconds notice).
Rumours ran from ‘she refused for reasons pertaining to her being Indigenous’ (even though she regularly sings the anthem at events), to ‘she just didn’t make it in time’. But, the most viciously bizarre rumour was that Mauboy wanted to wear a pair of heels from David Jones instead of Myer (a major sponsor) heels which were chosen for her, so threw a tanty and didn’t go on.
We hate to say it, but Mauboy’s management didn’t really help things by saying to The Australian that “issues over clothing and preparation” were the cause of her ghostie.
While the singer has been completely silent on social media since the incident, today she posted a 140+ character apology on Twitter and has likely frustrated everyone more because she explained sweet crap-all:

Does that translate to ‘I am sorry I did the thing, but I’m not sorry that I didn’t have to wear those ugly-ass shoes’? We don’t know. But if it was about the shoes, Jess, we feel you girl. Shoes are important.
