Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child

Even if you’ve never heard of graffiti / Neo-expressionist artist Basquiat, you’ll no doubt find the trailer for Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child a brief but compelling glimpse into his genuinely fascinating real-life story. The documentary was made by Tamara Davis, who started filming the artist – a close friend of hers – in the late Eighties, a couple of years before he died of a heroin overdose in 1988.

The film, that Davis shelved indefinitely after Basquiat’s death, was finally completed in 2009 and premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

The documentary trailer – perfectly soundtracked with jazz legend Charlie Parker – looks like an enthralling (if one-sided) ode to the prolific artist.
