If there’s one thing that’s clear about El Jefe Donald Trump, it’s that he is incredibly good at receiving and processing criticism thrown his way. He generally does this process by becoming apocalyptically furious at whoever is criticising him – especially if they’re not white – and tweeting them angrily from bed. He’s repeated this time-honoured process again today, this time with Jay-Z.
Someone needs to inform @realdonaldtrump that I ALREADY asked Jay Z whether black employment figures redeem Trump’s presidency. And Jay’s answer last night on the #VanJonesShow was POWERFUL !!! … Watch the VIDEO for yourself: https://t.co/7Sv3rHKkmW https://t.co/jbHpkKOM5o

It happened after Jay-Z appeared on Van Jones‘ show on CNN and rejected Trump’s oft-repeated claim that his presidency has been extremely good for the country and specifically for African Americans. Here’s Jay:
You haven’t fixed anything. You have sprayed perfume on the trash can. What you do when you do, that is the bugs come. You spray something and you create a superbug because you don’t take care of the problem. You don’t take the trash out, you keep spraying whatever over it to make it acceptable. As those things grow, you create a superbug. And then now we have Donald Trump, the superbug.
When asked specifically about Trump’s claims to have brought the African American unemployment rate down – a claim which generally ignores the sharp downward trend during Obama‘s presidency – Jay-Z dismissed it:
No, because it’s not about money at the end of the day … money doesn’t equate to happiness. It doesn’t. That’s missing the whole point. You treat people like human beings … that’s the main point.
And, as expected, soon came the tweet:
Somebody please inform Jay-Z that because of my policies, Black Unemployment has just been reported to be at the LOWEST RATE EVER RECORDED!
