Jay Jay’s Cop It From Child Psychologist Over “You Can’t Sit With Us” Tees

Yet another Aussie retailer has fallen for the evergreen charm of 2004’s cultural masterpiece Mean Girls, by slapping “You Can’t Sit With Us” on some very fetch wearables.

Prominent child psychologist Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg had a spray at Jay Jay’s over their shirts, after apparently coming across one in-store.

The bloke tagged in the Tweet? Alastair Nicholson, chair of the National Centre Against Bullying.

Cashing in on the flick has backfired before. Cotton On copped a bollocking last year for printing the line on some tote bags, which left some commenters asking for a public apology.

This time around, Dr. Carr-Gregg said “I talked to a mother of one 12-year-old who said “if you had any idea what life is like in the playground for my 12-year-old old, you would know this is obscene.””
Granted, the line’s deeply satirical context could be lost on would-be wearers, who may not have even been born when the comedy dropped a decade ago. Without that prior knowledge – which we thought was mandatory in 2015, frankly – the shirt could come across as pretty exclusionary.
Still, the shirt remains on sale on the brand’s website. If you’re not a fan of that, well…
