Last month, Senator Jaqcui Lambie made an impassioned plea for laws that would allow parents to place drug-addicted children in involuntary detox, revealing that her 21-year-old son has struggled with a dependence to ice.
Overnight, her son Dylan Milverton responded in an interview with News Corp, saying that he feels betrayed by his mother for publicly outing him in such a fashion, and accusing her of using him for her own “political pull.”
The 21-year-old said that he had no idea his mother was planning to speak about him in the Senate, and only found out about it when his phone lit up with messages from friends who had heard about it.
Though she did not refer to him by name, word naturally got out very quickly in the community, and now Milverton is angry at his mother, telling the Herald Sun:
“[She] won’t come to see me for an hour where I live … It’s never been about me, at the end of the day. Growing up, my brother, he was the footy star and stuff like that and it was always about him. Everyone knew me as his little brother and then my mum became a senator … now I’m just known to all as a fucking meth head.”
Milverton admitted that he uses ice “recreationally – once or twice a fortnight” but denied that he is an addict. “I wouldn’t mind finding out her side as to why she done that,” he said of his mother’s speech.
At the time, Senator Lambie was criticised for revealing what amounted to details of her son’s health problem to the nation without his consent; she has yet to publicly respond to her son’s latest comments.
