Independent Tasmanian Senator who makes the Senate feel more like a hilarious joke than it rightly should, Jacqui Lambie, has reportedly been sent a graphic death threat in the mail, warning that, “By the powers invested in me by Allah, I sentence you to death, I will take the honour in beheading you … when you are least prepared; my men and I will take your office by surprise,” according to the ABC.
The threat, according to the ABC, warns of beheading Lambie unless she converts to Islam and implements Sharia law by March 18. There’s something telling me, however, that Lambie won’t be jumping aboard either of those ships with too much excitement.
“I have no doubt that it is my stance against Sharia Law and my questions on Halal that are going on at the moment. The bottom line is that we are at war with ISIS and we are just going to have to be extremely cautious,” Lambie told the ABC. Lambie has provided endless commentary on her views on the Islamic State, Sharia law and face coverings being worn in public; but her most provocative statement came just a few weeks ago, as a guest on the Triple M breakfast show.
Lambie caused a huge stir for advocating the re-introduction of the death penalty in Australia for “foreign fighters” who travel overseas to participate in conflicts that are not in the interest of Australia. Lambie said, “I’m asking for anyone that helps, assists any of the terrorists who are trying to take out our own defence force personnel, that the death penalty be re-introduced but that be determined by a jury.”
You can’t make that stuff up. And you certainly can’t make up a graphic death threat, or take it lightly. The matter has reportedly been taken up with the AFP.
