INXS ‘Kicks’ Schapelle Corby In The Sunday Night Ratings

The Schapelle Corby telemovie that aired on Channel 9 last night has been smashed in the ratings and confirmed something that we all suspected.

The Australian public is over it.

Schapelle only managed to rake in 1.022m viewers last night. In comparison, the INXS telemovie Never Tear Us Apart pretty much doubled that with 1.974m viewers. People were far more interested in watching Michael Hutchence prance around and get on a bunch of party drugs than anything to do with Schapelle getting sprung with a bodyboard bag full of reefer.

Good job Australia. You made the right choice.

It wasn’t only Michael Hutchence that managed to do one over on Schapelle. There were a bunch of reality TV shows and news programs that beat it too. The Australian public would rather watch people in the kitchen cooking or renovating a house than sit through anything more about Schapelle.

1. INXS: Never Tear Us Apart 1.974m

2. Sunday Night 1.793m

3. My Kitchen Rules 1.64m

4. Seven News 1.292m

5. The Block: Fans v Faves 1.274m

6. Nine News Sunday 1.223

7. Schapelle 1.022m

Ouch. That hurts. To be fair, it was a particularly good episode of My Kitchen Rules.

Channel 9’s decision to push forward Schapelle and cash in on media interest backfired hard with most of us being all Schapelled out. If there was one positive they could take from the night it was the creation of #MercedesTeeth. The prosthetic work on Jacinta Stapleton’s teeth (as Mercedes Corby) was delightful enough to start it’s own Twitter account and hashtag.
