Instagram Model Posing For Photo Amidst School Of Sharks Bitten By Shark

This might just be me, but having your photo taken fuckin’ sucks. I don’t know where to look. I don’t know what to do with my hands. I can’t contort my face into something that looks pleasant and natural on command. My body language is always clearly signalling that I wished the camera was pointing at anything that wasn’t me. And the sharks? Don’t even get me fucking started on the sharks.

It seems like every time you pose for a photo for your Instagram, you’re always getting attacked by sharks, right? Alright, so that might not quite be a universal experience, but it is, at the very least, one had by the highly unfortunate 19-year-old Instagram model Katarina Zarutskie.

According to NBC News, Zarutskie was floating in the waters of Staniel Cay in the Bahamas as her boyfriend’s dad took some snaps of her and a big ol’ group of nurse sharks. Apparently not intent on posing for the photo, one of the sharks decided to have a go at her arm.

Zarutskie told NBC that she was pulled under briefly when the reportedly five-foot shark decided to take a chomp on her arm then she “ripped [her] wrist out of the shark’s mouth as fast as I could“. Thinking in a much clearer fashion than I imagine I would after having been BITTEN BY A DAMN SHARK, she swam to some nearby steps, keeping her arm out of the water so as not to attract more sharks with the blood.

The owner of Staniel Cay marina told NBC that the sharks are quite docile, but “can and do bite”, especially if they mistake hands or fingers for a bit of tasty, tasty food.

Zarutskie had the injury cleaned and wrapped at the marina but travelled to Florida the following day for further treatment thanks to the risk of infection that comes with having a shark bite into your arm.
