If you want to see the very edge of the cutting edge and make sure all the money is going straight to the artisans’ pockets, checking out the Imperial Panda Festival is pretty much a no-brainer. The DIY festival that makes Laneway look like a serviced apartment, Imperial Panda will this year use everyone’s favourite former Spanish restaurant, Goodgod, as it’s base before sprawling itself all over the city and spreading aural, visual and collectible love. Highlights include the alfresco cinema, a coming-of-age play about playing highschool flute, an embarrassing CD swap meet and an opening dance night dedicated entirely to The Smiths.
