IKEA Recalls Popular Beach Chairs Cuz They Keep Slicing Off Fingertips

Affordable home furnishings giant IKEA has recalled one of its popular models of beach chairs, thanks to the somewhat disturbing fact that they have been slicing the fingertips off unsuspecting consumers.
The recall applies to Mysingsö chairs (pictured above), which have a foldable wood base and a polyester fabric seat, and were sold from 2013 through to 2016 in a variety of colours, including striped patterns.
In its official product recall statement, IKEA said that “it is possible to assemble the chair incorrectly leading to risks of falls or finger entrapments,” which is a nice way of saying that the chair gods will have your fingertip as their sick trophy.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says that IKEA has received 13 reports of incidents worldwide, ten of which involved injuries. Six of these resulted in “fingertip amputations.”
There may be up to 34,000 of the chairs in circulation, and IKEA says that consumers can bring them back to stores for a full refund, with no receipt or proof of purchase required.
You can check the official product recall page for more information. We hope that your love of reasonably-priced Swedish furnishings has not cost you any part of your body.
