If you, like me, spent the last few hours watching the House of Representatives as they slogged their way through a whole shitload of humdrum speeches from conservative MPs who earnestly, earnestly believe that marriage equality is going to usher in the apocalypse, you’re probably pretty exhausted.
But it was pretty nice when all that wrapped up, marriage equality became law and then the whole bloody Parliament and public gallery – with the exception of some notable sad sacks, who will remain nameless and are officially cancelled – broke into a spontaneous rendition of ‘We Are Australian’.
Have a looksie:
Same-Sex Marriage: The Public Gallery inside the House of Representatives broke-out into song inside as soon as MPs made same-sex marriage legal in Australia today. “I am, you are, we are Australian.” https://t.co/rsGKqHokzx #SSM #auspol #7News pic.twitter.com/YrTDo26Hk9

Lovely stuff. See how nice it feels to pass progressive legislation?
