How To Get A Millennial Past The 2 Year Mark

Millennials are taking over organisations, with a whopping 75% to make up the global workforce by 2025. Yet, 46% of ‘Straya’s millennials don’t want a bar of their current employer after two years. Deloitte recently delved into the minds of millennials around the globe, and found “one in four millennials would quit their job” : 25% of your workers are about to say see ya.
WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY THINKING?
Millennials’ values and perspectives differ a helluva lot compared to Gens before ’em.
You may have a zinger of a brand or a company that’s killing it… But, unless your brand’s values are trickling right down through the heart ‘n soul of your company culture, millennials are going to lose interest. They’re more interested in personal values over company goals. Millennials do not consider dollarydoos alone, either. Financial benefit is perceived as an outcome for this bunch, not a guiding principle.
WHAT DO MILLENNIALS WANT?

  • To work at an office that offers work – life balance. Most important, baby.
  • Learning opps / Leadership. 58% don’t feel the leadership development love.
  • Flexibile werkin’.
  • Sense of purpose from werk. They wanna feel the warm fuzzies, working for you.
  • Learning development & progression. Let’s not confuse progression with promotion. Progression can mean mentoring and training too, y’know.
  • Opps for international travel and to leave the land Down Under.
  • The good vibes. A.K.A. positive company culture.
  • Employee satisfaction / fair treatment.
  • Ethics / trust / honesty.
HOW DO YOU GET ‘EM TO STICK AROUND?
Get amongst millennials outlook on werk / lyf.  Lucky, we mentioned these values for ya’ll above ^. Get lit-familiar with them, and apply all of the above to future biz considerations.
Satisfy millennials’ sweet needs. Reconsider your company’s ppl practices.
This could be as small as offering X amount of half days over Summer (um, yas), or as big as changing over to a four day werkin’ week.
Provide the profesh development goods. Tee up some mentoring & training.
Create ways for employers to learn on the job and move around the organisation.
Take engagement to the next lev. Clear communication lines are key.
Make sure they’re having catch ups with their manager on the reg! Millennials love a good (productive) chinwag.
Millennials, they just want a job they love, tbh.
