The Future Of ‘House Of Cards’ Post-Spacey Will Be Decided In Two Weeks

The production of House Of Cards’ final season has been placed on a further two-week hiatus, as the company behind it works to reconfigure the series without the input of accused sexual abuser Kevin Spacey.

Production was suspended earlier this month, shortly after House Of Card’s lead actor first faced public allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. Spacey was removed from the show, and Netflix indicated it “will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey.”

In a statement obtained by Deadline, Media Rights Capital (MRC) – which produces the political drama for Netflix – indicates that the show’s future will now be revealed after the break on December 8.

“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen,” said MRC’s Pauline Micelli.

“The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”

The show’s writing room will continue its work during the hiatus, as the production team endeavours to find a way forward without Spacey as Frank Underwood.

Two episodes of the season have already been completed. It is unclear if Underwood will be immediately written out of the show, or if he will be portrayed by another actor, as is the case with Christopher Plummer’s appointment to upcoming film All The Money In The World.

Earlier, fans called for the series to move forward with Claire Underwood as the show’s sole focus, after years of unimpeachable performances from Robin Wright.
