Here’s All The Shit That Happened On Day 28 Of The Federal Election Campaign

It’s Tuesday and both major parties are rolling out their final bosses to try and swing the election their way. Also, more candidates have said bad things online before! Shocking! Where do they get these bloody people, amiright?!

John Howard has been drifting around Tony Abbott’s electorate for days, while Labor’s Paul Keating has dusted himself off to suddenly appear in the media quite a lot. Today, he said Australia hadn’t seen a figure as dark as Peter Dutton in 50 years.

Don’t know where he gets that idea from.

Barnaby Joyce, who wears a hat and yells about carp and is generally just weirdly aggressive when asked a questions about… anything… has revolutionised his Twitter persona. I’m not sure it’s working.

The Labor Party also released a new ad today just before all the ads are finally stopped, focusing on climate change. It’s a pretty good point to make, the Coalition has a dodgy history when it comes to actually doing something about the impending demise of the entire planet, but it’s also sort of risky given Labor has refused to stop the Adani Carmichael coal mine. Also, a new report released today found the opposition party’s plans for pipelines linking gas fields in the north would create more emissions than Adani ever could. How’s that for timing.

Anonymous flyers targeting Labor MP Anne Aly were also reported. The flyers have no group or political branding, and refer to Aly by her full given Egyptian name and say she had voted to “weaken our borders” and supports banning “any criticism of Islam – just like Saudi Arabia.”

Greens reps in NSW also had a bunch of their campaign posters defaced with the logo of a neo-nazi group.

Everything is going great in Australia.

Not a great day for the Greens in general, to be honest, after a candidate had to step down for the seat of Parkes after it was revealed he had claimed on social media that Martin Bryant didn’t commit the Port Arthur massacre.

Scott Morrison, probably hoping to focus on his current push for a cult of personality to build around him, spent a lot of the day having to defend his religion after he failed to say whether he thought gay people went to Hell. Later in the day he came forward and said of course he does not believe gay people go to hell.
