A Costumed Paragliding Competition Exists In France & Yes, Harry Potter Is Involved

Harry Potter has legitimately taken flight in the French Alps over the weekend as part of the Icare Cup, which is most cooked paragliding competition the world has ever seen.

Approximately 130 costume-clad daredevils flocked to the small French village of Saint-Hilaire for their annual paragliding competition, which awards prizes for the best costume, according to 10Daily.

The wacky event has been hosted in the area every year since 1987, when a costumed category was added to the regular paragliding event.

Approximately 100,000 people attended the event, which is likely the only time you’ll see a man in a camel suit flying through the sky.

“This is always a great feeling,” an Italian pilot named Carla said. “We share an emotion with everybody, with people from France, with people coming from the other side of the hemisphere, so yes, we share a very beautiful and intense project.”

Contestants in the fancy-dress category of the event were in the running for a number of paragliding-related prizes worth €20,000 combined. Not too bad for yeeting yourself off a cliff in a camel suit, if you ask me.

The three-day festival wrapped up today, with costumes including a camel, a giant yellow duck, a storm trooper and Harry Potter all taking flight over the weekend.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get started on making a camel costume for Halloween.
