HAPPY DAYS: The Rare Tortoise Nicked From Perth Zoo Is Safely Back Home

Every now and then, some absolute dropkicks reminds us why it’s so bloody hard for us to have nice things. Last week, those drongos presented themselves in the form of tortoise-thieves, who callously nicked an critically endangered Radiated Tortoise from the Perth Zoo.

Fortunately, our lil’ reptile buddy has finally been returned unharmed.

In a statement obtained by Channel 7, the tortoise was purchased by a member of the public who didn’t immediately realise the shell-bearer’s provenance.

After a quick research – and presumably dropping a stack of cash on the uber-rare specimen – they contacted police, who shuttled the tortoise back to the Zoo for a check-up this morning.
The animal’s return comes after experts worried the tortoise, which requires a heat-regulated enclosure and a very specific diet, mightn’t fare too well outside of the zoo.

Welcome home, bud.
